West Point Men's Team Handball

Welcome to the homepage for men's Team Handball at West Point. Founded in the 1975-1976 season, West Point's handball program has a proud and rich tradition. We are one of the oldest active handball clubs in the US and are the current & 7-time defending Collegiate National Champions, the bronze medal winner in the Elite National Club Championships 2013, and are the current Armed Forces Cup Champions. In our club's 37 years of existence, we've been ranked as USTHB's College Champions 26 times. We have sent over 30 members of our team to international competition as Olympians or members of Team USA or the Army's World Class Athlete program.

We play our home games in Arvin gymnasium on the campus of the United States Military Academy at West Point. Much like West Point's very successful rugby program, we are a Cadet Competitive Club team, meaning that we are not an NCAA sanctioned sport. However, our team receives "authorizations", allowing the members of the team to participate in practices in lieu of drill and travel on competition trips versus other college programs as well as top non-collegiate club programs. West Point has a long tradition of working closely with the national governing body of the sport, currently USA Team Handball.

Handball as a sport has its roots in Europe, where it is currently played at its highest level. The International Handball Federation claims that except for soccer, handball is the most popular, watched, and played sport in the world. It has a a huge following in Europe as well as strong interest and participation just about everywhere else but in the United States. This article is a good explanation of the sport.
